It happens — you buy something, and then find out it’s something else. Don’t be upset… you might end up with something better!

About 15 years ago, Palmares was huge in catalogs. But when I ordered it, I unknowingly received Chablis — a substitution.

I keep records, but don’t always refer to them before ordering. So occasionally, I order the same variety twice, which happened with Palmares. But when the error was discovered, I noticed — these flowers aren’t the same!

An explosion… of apricot frills. It opens soft-yellow, and then pinkens. The appearance may prompt some first-time observers to question… is it a daffodil?

The first guest to ever be thrilled by Palmares was Mr. J. Gerritsen, as he visited his own garden. Other seedlings nearby included Mondragon, Belcanto, Tricollet, and also — Chablis.

Palmares multiples joyfully, with ever-increasing numbers of lace-filled flowers. It must not be relegated to the back of the display — plant it foremost!
