A gift — someone gave my grandma a ceramic bowl of forced N. Elka bulbs. She planted them in her landscaping, where they grew wildly. Years later, I dug some up and planted them in our woods. They have flourished ever since.

Much gratitude is owed to Alec Gray, the hybridizer. He specialized in the breeding of miniatures, all of which are wonderful. Tête-à-Tête, Gipsy Queen, Minnow, and Sun Disc are a few examples of his works.

Elka opens early, and stays open late. These little trumpets begin pale-yellow, and turn ivory within a few days. By the end of the week, they’re glistening white.
